SPE MIST Activities:

A workshop on Python programming was organized by the MIST SPE Student Chapter in 2023. This workshop aims to introduce the basic structure of Python programming for machine learning in the field of petroleum and mining engineering. This workshop was held for 3 days. In this workshop, students gathered the basic knowledge of the Python programming language and it's application in the petroleum industry. A total of 60 students participated through online platforms, and those who successfully completed the workshop were awarded with certificates.

A distinguished lecture on physics-embedded machine learning for modelling and optimization of mature fields was organized by the SPE MIST student chapter in December 2023. In this lecture, the importance of integration of physics-embedded models with machine learning was focused on. The distinguished lecturer gave an insightful lecture on the aspects of physics embedded in models and the factors that come with the optimization of the mature fields. This lecture also highlighted the challenges of working with the mature fields and how valuable these fields can be for history matching and forecasting the condition using machine learning. A total of 160 participants—students and industrial professionals—participated in this lecture.
